For the week of November 16th...
United States Literature - We will focus on Emerson and Thoreau and then move on to Poe, Whitman, Dickinson, and others.
Looking ahead in United States Literature A
· A 40 point literary term test on Friday, November 20th (one section requires you define the literary term, another that you provide an example of the literary term…Also multiple choice, matching, true/false)
· Five-paragraph essay “B. Franklin essay (due Tues.)
· One additional paper?
· Notes on American authors – on final
· At least one additional notebook check – 50 points
· A grade recorded for the Holt Reader (100 points)
· Additional homework assignments - 70 points?
· A final worth roughly 12 percent of the final grade
Holt Reader so far –
· Pages 3-9 – do all EXCEPT FOR word study
Pages 47-53 – do all infer, clarify, and identify…and all of page 53!
· Pages 23-25 - Jonathan Edwards
· Pages 67-72 – do all – American Romanticism
· Pages 77-78 – all – assigned Monday 11/16
Myth and Legend
We will continue with our study of Greek heroes which concludes with Heracles. Students must read Atalanta for Tuesday. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts extra credit assignment has been given out. Remember to study for the Task Two test on Tuesday, November 24th.
Ethnography – “Bird’s Eye View”
Optional Extra Credit – three points (if done well) - Due next Tuesday
· In color, draw a “bird’s eye view” of the location where your subculture meets
· Include the spot that commands the most energy – could be a coffee machine or a desk…draw this in red or in some other attention-getting color
· Show the traffic pattern…where do people come in?
*Remember the “beauty shop” piece in Fieldworking…you are not always aware of everything you know about your subculture until you really think about it.
