This class is designed to give students a background and insight into the world or graphic communication using analog and digital processing. Learning processes, terminologies, and methods of printing and graphic communication. Students will learn a variety of printing methods including 35mm photography, silkscreen printing, digital photography, and computer graphics design. It will better equip students for developing papers and presentations in other classes and help students develop good life skills.
Projects
Projects can be completed in any order but on average one project a week should be completed to stay on task for grading. Grades are updated and posted to monitor progress weekly.
# 1. Hand cut Silkscreen print (One color)
This assignment is done in class using amberlith film and a line copy images. Image is cut using exacto knife from the film and attached to silkscreen and printed with oil based ink.
#2. Bluepoly photo-silkscreen
This assignment is done in class using bluepolly photo imaged silkscreen. Image is attached to silkscreen and printed with oil based ink.
# 3. Two color Silkscreen
This assignment is done in class using amberlith or bluepolly film and a halftoned or line copy image. Images are printed twice in two separate process with oil passed ink to create a image with two colors in it.
# 4. Logo Design
This assignment is a personal logo digitized so it can be reproduced on other assignments. It can be original artwork or designed on the computer.
# 5. SLR 35mm photo’s
This assignment is processing of pictures taken on a 35mm SLR camera. Student will take a 35mm camera home take a variety of pictures then process and print the pictures in class,
# 6. Shirt Prints
Students can silkscreen or hot image transfer an image onto a shirt or other cloth material.
# 7. Design personal currency (Money)
Students will design and print personal currency for an empire of them. They must have a personal picture on it, domination, Name of country, and other designs to personalize currency. One color print, one B&W and rough layout are turned in for grading.
#8. Sales Brochure
Design and print a sales brochure, or flier. It must include personal picture, personal logo, sales information and sale item picture in addition to contact information.
#9. CD Label or Cover
Label for personal CD and or CD case, only one required both for extra credit.
#10. CD or DVD production.
Create a presentation on PowerPoint or program of your choice to be shown in class. It is the student’s responsibility to have the show ready to present in class on the last week of class. Show must be minim of ten frames and minimum of five minutes in length.
