ISD #622 Drivers Education
Driving an automobile safely and responsibly is one of the most important skills you will learn in your lifetime. Our program is taught by certified, licensed teachers.
Fee
The fee for the program is $310.00 per student. This includes 33 hours of classroom instruction, materials and behind-the-wheel lessons. Permit and road exam fees are not included.
Classroom
Our classroom instruction includes the required 30 hours that prepares the student to take the Minnesota permit test and to take on the responsibility of driving. The fall classroom session for the 2007-08 school year will run October 22 - November 13, 2007. The spring classroom session will run February 25 - March 27, 2008. Please see the registration form for exact dates at North and Tartan High School.
The classes meet from 2:05 – 5:00 p.m. in the Forum on the 1st floor at North High and in the Social Studies large group room at Tartan. Students are responsible for their own transportation home. Please have your student picked up at 5:00 p.m. Please note that your student must be 15 by the November or March test dates to attend these classroom sessions. The state examiner comes out to each high school to administer the written State Permit test.
Please find your student’s ORIGINAL birth certificate to show the state examiners for the written portion of the State Permit Test. If your student was born outside of the United States, their Original Birth Certificate needs to be translated into English. Also your student will need a Social Security Card and a current school picture ID card.
On the first day of class, students will receive a classroom schedule and other important information that you as a parent/guardian need to read over. The Guidelines and Procedures form is reviewed in class on the first day, the student is to discuss this with their parent/guardian for their signature. This form must be returned to class the next day.
Behind-the-Wheel
After the students pass the permit test, they are required to complete six hours of driving lessons. Detailed information about scheduling the behind-the-wheel lessons will be provided in the classroom sessions.
Registration
Payment in full is due at the time of registration. For your convenience, you can download the Registration Form; from the North website (northhighschool.webaloo.com) or the Tartan website (tartanhighschool.org click activities, then driver’s education, and finally the registration form). Fill in your student’s info and attach a check or money order in the amount of $310.00 (NO CASH). Checks, money orders or cashier’s checks should be made payable to ISD 622 – Driver’s Education. Mail both North High and Tartan High School registrations to:

You may also look for the Driver’s Education table during the student schedule pick-up in August to drop off your completed form and payment. If you register within 14 days of the class starting, you must pay with a cashier’s check or a money order.
