Dress Code

North High School Administration and teachers expect students to present themselves in a manner that will be respectful and appropriate. Students' clothing should not offend others, cause embarassment to themselves or others, present a health hazard or create a disruption in classes. The following expectations will be enforced:

  1. All students must wear shoes.
  2. No caps, hats, sunglasses or other head covers are to be worn in the building.
  3. Pants must be fastened around the waist.
  4. Coats and jackets must be kept in the locker.
  5. Book bags, duffel bags, backpacks and any other large purse, bag or brief case must be kept in lockers
Note: Students may bring (not wear) jackets and backpacks (or similar items) to period 4 in order to catch buses after school.
  6. Students are expected to maintain clean, healthy attire.
  7. Students may not wear clothing which displays inappropriate language or graphics (directly or implied) or which is immodest. Examples: ethnic, racist or sexist put-downs; drug, alchohol or tobacco advertising.
  8. Students may not wear shorts, skirts or tops that will show underwear. For example, tops must be able to cover bra straps.
  9. Clothing such as pajamas, halter or tube tops and other clothing with low backs or low-cut fronts are not permitted. Shoulders are to be covered.
  10. Wearing of gang colors, bandanas or other gang identification is not allowed.
  11. Metal chains, studs and spike jewelry or accessories are considered a safety concern and cannot be brought or worn in school.

Students who are not in compliance with the dress policy will be asked to modify their apparel or be sent home. A pattern of noncompliance by a student may lead to other disciplinary action.

Industrial Technology, Physical Education, Business and extracurricular activities instructors have established guidelines for safety and health reasons. It is necessary for students to know and follow these expectations.
