Important Information from Syllabus: 

  • In order to pass Communications, students must complete all speech assignments.
  • If you are absent, work is due the day of your return. No exceptions. Please see your calendar for assignment due dates. NO LATE WORK IS ACCEPTED. LATE WORK IS WORTH ZERO POINTS.
  • If you miss a quiz, you have until Friday of that week to take it before or after school. Arrangements must be made with the instructor. If not made up by Friday, it will result in zero credit.

Week 1 of Class: September 1st- 5th
Monday, Sept. 1st

No School

Tuesday, Sept. 2nd
1. Welcome to class.
2. Day 1 writing- See inside of Self-Evaluation Packet.
3. Introductions: What do you fear about speaking in public? Give one good thing and one bad thing that happened over break.
4. Discuss Syllabus. (See link above)
HW: Begin working on Chapter 2 homework (Due Thursday)
Section 1 pg 30- answer Recalling the Facts and Thinking Critically
Section 2 pg 37- answer Recalling the Facts and Thinking Critically
Section 3 pg 44- answer ONLY Thinking Critically
**Make sure you are responding in complete thoughts!- There will be a quiz over Chapter 2 on Thursday! Parent letter due Friday.


Wednesday, Sept 3rd
1. Find a Friend Game
2. Introduction of a partner
3. What should we not talk about in Communications Class?
HW: Chapter 2 HW (See above) and Parent Letter Due Friday

Thursday, Sept 4th
1. Chapter 2 Homework Due
2. Discuss Chapter 2 as a class
3. Chapter 2 Quiz
4. 2 Truths and 1 Lie instructions (Choose 2 things about yourself that are true but somewhat unbelievable. Then choose one thing that is false. Share with the class. Your goal is to stump your classmates!)
HW: Write down your 2 Truths and 1 lie Due Friday.

Friday, Sept 5th
1. Parent Letter due
2. Discuss Hand Position: Where should you rest your hands when speaking in public?
Temple: fingertips together
Clasp hands: hands together
Hand by your side.
3. Practice using one of these techniques.
4. Begin 2 Truths and a Lie Activity
HW: Read Chapter 12- Answer
pg 292- Recalling the Facts
pg.299 Recalling the facts and #2 of  Thinking Critical
pg.311 Thinking Crictically------Due Tuesday.
