ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES
The best schools and teachers have little impact on students who are not regularly in school. The North High community believes that regular attendance is very important. It is the responsibility of each student and parent to see that the student attends and arrives on time each school day.
REPORTING AN ABSENCE
- Parent/guardian should call the school office (651-748-6190) every day a student is absent. Any absence not verified by phone requires a written note from the parent/guardian on the day the student returns to school.
- Voice mail is available 24 hours a day. All unverified school absences will be handled by the attendance staff the following day.
- A student who is on the absence list and comes to class without an admit slip must report to the office at the end of the hour to get an admit slip.
- Oversleeping and transportation problems are not excused absences.
- A medical note may be required to verify absences.
TARDY PROCEDURES
- Students who arrive between 7:25 and 7:35 must sign in at the East Entrance Welcome Desk. A detention will be assigned after 3 late arrivals accumulate. After 6 late arrivals a Saturday School will be assigned.
- Students tardy to school past 7:45 AM are to report to the Welcome Desk for an admit slip.
- Students late to a class are to go directly to class. Students will be admitted to class whether or not they have a pass.
- Students who are tardy to class will be given consequences by their teachers and/or the Main Office. Students habitually tardy will be referred to their administrator and may be assigned detention, Saturday school or placed on an attendance contract. Failure to adhere to a contract can result in loss of credit.
- Students who come to class more than 30 minutes late are considered absent.
TRUANCY
A truancy is an absence of all or part of a school day which has not been verified by the parent/guardian or a class absence which the student cannot get excused. Students who are habitually truant will be referred to the County Attorneys Office.
Individual Class Truancies:
- 1st Truancy - loss of daily credit for the period(s) with no opportunity to make up work and Saturday School assigned.
- 2nd, 3rd and 4th Truancy - loss of daily credit for the period(s) with no opportunity to make up work. Teacher refers student to the Assistant Principal who 1) assigns Saturday School and 2) places the student on an attendance contract.
- 5th Truancy - Loss of credit for the course. Student is dropped from the course with an "F".
- Leaving the building without permission for any length of time may be classified a truancy and result in a Saturday School assignment.
CLASS ABSENCES REPORTED AS UNVERIFIED:
Any class absence, unverified after three school days, will be considered a truancy.
TWO OR MORE TRUANT CLASS PERIODS IN ONE DAY
-
Attendance office notifies the Assistant Principal who assigns student a Saturday School/CAAP or suspension.
-
Failure to attend Saturday School may result in reassignment and/or detention, CAAP, or suspension at home (Parent Conference may be arranged to readmit the student.)
